Senators Drop Series Opener to Akron 6-1
The Harrisburg Senators (24-22) opened their four-game series against Akron (34-13) with a 6-1 loss. Three Akron pitchers limited the Senators to just a single hit. The win was the 16th straight at home for Akron.
Michael Peoples started for Akron and took a no-hitter into the seventh inning when with two outs and runners at first and second, Spencer Kieboom doubled to drive in a run and breaking up the no-hitter and the shutout.
Akron scored three runs in the fourth off Senators starter Jaron Long to break a scoreless tie and take a 3-0 lead. They tacked on a run in the fifth to push their lead to 4-0. Long went 5.2 innings and allowed four runs on eight hits. Derek Self pitched 1.1 scoreless innings and Gilberto Mendez pitched the eighth allowing two runs on three hits.
The Senators lost for the just the second time in their past eleven games and had their six-game road winning streak snapped.
