Lucas Giolito Named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week
The Eastern League announced today that Harrisburg Senators’ RHP Lucas Giolito has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 6th – June 12. It is Giolito’s second EL Pitcher of the Week award as he earned the honor in August of last season.
Giolito set a new career high with 12 strikeouts as he limited Akron to two unearned runs on four hits in seven innings during Friday’s 6-2 victory over the RubberDucks. The 21-year-old right-hander is 5-0 with an ERA of 1.48 in his last seven starts (42.2 innings), and has lowered his season ERA to 2.64, which is good for fifth in the Eastern League. Giolito has struck out 62 and walked 29 in 61.1 innings this season.
Giolito was originally selected in the 1st round (16th overall) of the 2012 MLB draft by the Nationals. He is currently ranked as the No. 1 prospect in all of baseball according to MLB.com.
