Senators Roster Moves: Pleffner to DL, Long returns
In conjunction with the Washington Nationals, the Harrisburg Senators announced today changes to their roster. Infielder Shawn Pleffner was placed on the disabled list, retroactive to July 24. He will be eligible to come off the DL on July 31.
In a corresponding move, RHP Jaron Long was transferred to the Senators from the Syracuse Chiefs.
The injury comes at an inopportune time for Pleffner, who has arguably been Harrisburg’s hottest hitter. Pleffner is hitting .376/.437/.536 in his last 42 games with nine doubles, a triple, three home runs and 19 RBI. He came up with game-winning pinch-hit RBIs in the seventh inning of back-to-back games this past weekend against Richmond.
Long returns to the Senators after making nine appearances (eight starts) for AAA Syracuse. He was 2-3 with a 4.14 ERA in 50 innings with the Chiefs after a stellar start to the season with Harrisburg.
In a Senators uniform this season, Long has an ERA of 2.22 in 44.2 innings across eight starts. He is slated to start Thursday’s series opener in New Hampshire against the Hartford Yard Goats.
