Senators Roster Moves: Marmolejos and Runion join the Sens, Whiting and Brinley head back to Potomac
In conjunction with the Washington Nationals, the Harrisburg Senators announced today changes to their roster.
Jose Marmolejos was promoted from Class A Advanced Potomac after posting impressive numbers for 103 games. The 23-year-old Dominican is slashing .287/.361/.449 with a Carolina League-leading 36 doubles, 11 home runs, 72 runs scored, and 59 driven in.
Also joining the Senators is reliever Sam Runion after being reassigned from Triple-A Syracuse. The 27-year-old Runion, who pitched in Harrisburg the last two seasons, appeared in 24 games for the Chiefs pitching to a 1-1 record and 5.75 ERA. In 2015, Runion made 20 appearances with the Senators earning a 3-2 record and 2.96 ERA while pocketing four saves. The 6’4″ right-hander has held Eastern League opponents to a .232 batting average while with Harrisburg.
The corresponding roster moves the Senators made were sending pitchers Boone Whiting and Ryan Brinley back to Potomac.
Whiting struggled to a 5.84 ERA over 5 starts with Harrisburg as the 26-year-old right-hander walked 14 batters and allowed 31 hits over 24.2 innings. Brinley’s first taste of Double-A didn’t go well as opponents hit .362 off the Sam Houston State product including five home runs in only 11.1 innings.
