TONIGHT’S GAME

The Senators and Yard Goats play game two of the series Tuesday night at FNB Field after the Senators won the opener 7-5. The Senators went 11-11 against the Yard Goats last season, and 7-5 in games at FNB Field. The Senators took four out of five from the Yard Goats to close out the 2016 season.

STARTING PITCHING STELLAR

Four of the first five Senators starting pitchers have allowed two earned runs or less, highlighted by Greg Ross tossing six shutout innings and limiting the Yard Goats to three hits in the series opener against Hartford. Ross is the second consecutive starter to throw six innings after Austen Williams threw six frames Sunday afternoon, and struck out a Senator season-high six batters.

PITCHING MATCHUP

John Simms starts for the Senators opposite the Yard Goats’ Ryan Castellani. Simms is making his season debut and has spent parts of the last four season with the Senators. He spent all of 2016 with the club, finishing 8-5 with a 3.30 ERA in 29 games. The Woodlands, Texas native was drafted by the Nationals in the 11th round of the 2013 MLB draft out of Rice. Castellani is the seventh rated prospect in the Rockies organization according to MLB.com. The former 2nd round pick took the loss in his first start of the season against Richmond, allowing four runs and eight hits in six innings. He went 7-8 with a 3.81 ERA in 26 games with Modesto last year. The 21-year-old has pitched one level up in each of his four seasons with the team.
