Game 40 vs. Richmond: Lineup and Notes
The Senators and Flying Squirrels play game two of a three game series Saturday night. The Senators look to even the series after falling 10-7 in the series opener, as Richmond scored seven runs in the first three inning en route to the victory. This is the first meeting of the season between the Senators and Squirrels. The teams will play a total of 20 games this season, ten at FNB Field.
Neftali Soto finished 2-4 Friday night, extending his hitting streak to eight games, the longest current streak on the Senators roster. Soto has the longest Senators hitting streak of the season, recording base hit in 11 consecutive games from April 9 to April 20. The Manati, Puerto Rico native has recorded at least a hit in 30 of the 35 games he’s played and leads the Senators with 11 multi hit efforts this season.
TODAY’S STARTING PITCHERS
John Simms starts game two of the set for the Senators. The right-hander is 1-2 with a 3.58 ERA this season over seven starts, and has limited opponents to a .214 batting average, the highest mark among all Senators starters. Simms allowed three runs on two hits, both of which were home runs, in his last start at Trenton on May 14. Richmond counters with starter Matt Gage. The left-hander is making his seventh start of the season and is 1-3 with a 3.48 ERA. Gage is in his second consecutive season in Richmond. He was originally drafted in the 10th round of the 2014 draft out of Siena.
