Game 87 vs. Erie: Lineup and Notes
The Senators welcome the Erie SeaWolves to FNB Field for a three game series to finish the homestand. Erie snapped a three game losing skid with their 4-1 triumph in the series opener Friday night. The Senators fell to 3-8 against the SeaWolves this season, and they have lost five in a row to Erie after they were swept in a four game series the last time the two clubs played in the beginning of June.
Since June 1, Alec Keller is hitting .337, the fourth highest mark in the Eastern League over that period. The former Ivy League player of the year has raised his batting average from .240 on June 3 to .280 entering play on Saturday, the second highest mark on the team among players that have played at least 50 games.
The Senators send John Simms to the mound in game two of the series. The right-hander is the lone starter remaining from the Senators’ opening day starting rotation, and is 3-5 with a 3.87 ERA across 16 starts. The 2017 Eastern League All-Star has allowed more than three runs in just three of his 16 starts, and has worked a team-best 10 quality starts.
The SeaWolves counter with starter AJ Ladwig. The right-hander is 7-4 with a 4.41 ERA in 16 starts across three different levels this season. Ladwig began the season with single-A Lakeland then was promoted to triple-A Toledo for one appearance before being added to Erie’s roster on May 6. The 24-year-old has started twice against the Senators this season, working six shutout innings against the club most recently on June 2.
